The Riverside Project laundry room may be small, but it’s brimming with charm, smart storage, and thoughtful design details. This English Countryside-inspired laundry space proves that even the most hardworking rooms can feel beautiful, cozy, and elevated.

In this post, I’ll share a full tour of the space, the design choices that make it special, and all the key sources, from the wallpaper and tile to the light fixture and cabinet color.
Let’s dive in!
Small Laundry Room with Big Impact

This laundry room doubles as the entry from the garage, and I didn’t want it to feel like “just another pass-through.” With its peek-a-boo door to the kitchen, it deserved to be styled as a vignette worth showing off.
By layering texture, color, and charm, we created a space that feels like a mini cottage escape—practical yet romantic.
Function Meets Beauty
Every busy family knows a laundry room has to work hard—but that doesn’t mean it should be purely utilitarian. Here’s how we made this space both functional and stylish:
Vertical utility closet – hidden storage for all the “not so pretty” essentials.
Folding station – ample counter space for laundry days.
Hooks for the family – four stations to keep bags and jackets organized.
Wall basket for mail & keys – a mini task station that keeps everyday clutter in check.
Woven baskets – practical storage with a touch of natural warmth.
English Countryside Design Details That Elevate the Space
This laundry room is full of English Countryside charm—soft hues, timeless textures, and a touch of whimsy:
Floors – Durable black terracotta tile grounds the room with character and texture.
Walls – The star of the show is a soft grey countryside-inspired wallpaper. It’s elegant, timeless, and a little unexpected in a laundry space.
Cabinets & Trim – Painted in Sherwin Williams Clary Sage (SW 6178), the green tone ties beautifully into the wallpaper while feeling fresh and calming.
Lighting – A scalloped semi-flush mount in white linen with aged brass details adds a delicate but striking focal point.
The result? A laundry room that’s both hardworking and charming enough to show off.
