DESIGNING OUR DREAM HOME: PART 2 LIVINGROOM RENOVATION

Welcome back to our exciting journey of transforming our new house into our dream home!

I'm thrilled to share this experience with you, as we step out of our comfort zone and dive headfirst into the world of DIY home updates. Buckle up, because you're in for a wild ride filled with raw, unfiltered moments, learning experiences, and hopefully, plenty of beautiful successes!

In my previous post, I spilled all the beans about our plans for the kitchen renovation (check it out here if you haven't already!). But today, let's shift our focus to the heart of our home - the living room.

The living room is special; it boasts stunning architectural arc windows with a traditional grid style. The craftsmanship on the fireplace mantle, adorned with a unique hardwood design, captured my heart from day one.

...those picturesque windows offer a view of the serene small lake and lush greenery! I can already picture cozy winter evenings spent here.

I couldn't help but notice that the room felt a tad dark and needed a bit of an update to align with our desired style. The dark reddish floors, matching the wall wainscoting, gave it a classic, traditional look but also contributed to the dim ambiance.

Despite these minor concerns, I absolutely adore the vaulted ceiling, which adds a grand, airy feeling to the space. It's undeniably welcoming, but I knew it could shine even brighter with a touch of modernism.

So, here's what I envisioned to revamp this living room oasis:

  1. To balance the vaulted ceiling, we'll add raw oak-style beams, imparting a touch of rustic charm.

  2. The floors will transform, being refinished to a bright oak color to infuse the room with a radiant vibe.

  3. Painting the walls a fresh, crisp white, along with the wainscoting, will open up the room and elevate its brightness.

  4. Embracing contrast, we'll paint the window frames and French doors black, giving the space a modern edge.

  5. After conducting a fun vote, we decided to make the fireplace the focal point by painting it black, harmonizing with the modernized aesthetic.

  6. While some design decisions are a leap of faith, we created 3D visuals to ensure everything fits together cohesively.

  7. We're removing the library to create an open space, adding an impactful, unique sconce behind the love-seat, next to the rectangle window. I can already imagine the perfect vignette!

Here is a before-after vision with our 3D Design Board. I love this as this helps me decide and move forward with more confidence.

The exciting part? We've already started working on the layout, measuring and adjusting furniture frames to ensure a seamless flow in the room. Blue tapes and measurements came to the rescue, and we resized the rug and coffee table to optimize the space and leave more room to breathe.

This week, we prepped the room for painting, and the primer is already bringing us one step closer to our vision! I apologize for some blurry photos, but trust me, every step is worth documenting.
