Today, let's zoom in on a game-changer: Floor Brightening Operation - The Resplendent Refinishing of Our Hardwood Floors!
Choosing to refinish the floors was, hands down, our most brilliant move yet.
The house has an array of charming features, but alas, its red oak wood tone floors and the wall wainscoting were casting a shadow of older charm with a clubhouse feeling.
So, my ingenious plan involved two strokes of genius.
First, the wainscoting got a makeover, blending seamlessly with the walls in a radiant coat of white.
And then came the pièce de résistance - sanding and refinishing those floors to pristine perfection.
Hold on to your hats, because here's the icing on the cake: black-painted window frames.
Can you say 'hello' to sophistication? It is still under construction, but below you will see the big progress of mixing old and new!
Now, let's dive into the juicy details. The Art of Precision: A Designer's Secret
I dropped a golden nugget for you - the secret lies in communicating your vision like a pro.
Armed with samples of wood from the trusty Home Depot; I aimed to brief the GC in a very clear way. My choice? The modern elegance of white oak, with a twist - a delicate beige neutral tone, none of that yellow-orange business.

Round one of the stain samples was a dance of anticipation. But here's a tip that could save your design dreams: always, and I mean always, see it in person. Those pictures?
They're crafty illusionists. A shade might seem like a match made in heaven on screen, but the reality might beg to differ. So the white oak was very cloudy, not the texture I was going for. Re-briefed the team for another round.
A week later, the floor team worked their magic once more.
Round two, and there it was - that one perfect hue that sang to my design-hungry soul.I selected 50% Gray 50% Natural one in the middle.
Fast forward through the whirlwind of creativity, and voilà! They sanded the floors and re-finished them in 2-3 days.
Now, in the present, the anticipation is electric.
Our newly refinished floors are already turning our heads. And as the final coat of finish awaits its turn after the kitchen installation, our hearts race with exhilaration.
