At Design & Curations, we specialize in breathing new life into dated spaces, and this powder room transformation is an example. With bold, moody tones and carefully curated details, we turned this overlooked space into a functional statement.
Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how we made it happen, along with links to the items we used.

The Vision: A Layered Look with Deep, Moody Colors
Color Drenching: A Timeless Trend
The client dreamed of a powder room that would wow their guests while harmonizing with the bright, neutral tones of the adjacent main-floor spaces. The answer? Go bold with color drenching. Inspired by the accent color found throughout the home (deep olive green) we anchored the design with Bauwerk’s limewash in Kino for the walls. For the ceiling, trims, and even the door, we selected Sherwin Williams’ Cocoon in the same rich tone.
This color drenching technique created a cohesive, immersive effect that emphasized depth and texture. The limewash added rustic charm to the room, and the brass accents complemented it perfectly.
Designer Tip: For the ultimate moody feel, don’t forget the “fifth wall”! Painting the ceiling and inside of the door in the same color ties everything together seamlessly.
Flooring: A Bold Foundation
To ground the space, we chose black terracotta tiles with a matte finish from Zia Tile. The result was a modern, rustic foundation that matches with the room’s deeper tones. The flooring’s understated elegance created the perfect contrast for the lighter vanity and elevated the surrounding brass and bronze accents.
Vanity: Custom Oak with Scalloped Detailing

The custom-made oak vanity is the star of this transformation. We added it to lighten the space. With the scalloped details, it gives subtle romance vibes to the space. This detail was our way of adding a soft touch to balance the bold colors, just as the client wanted.
A push-to-open mechanism kept the vanity sleek and eliminated the traditional hardware. We kept the marble countertop for contrast against the oak and black flooring. We added an antique bronze faucet to tie these elements together and create a timeless charm.
Brass and Glass Accents: Adding Depth and Warmth
We added brass and glass sconces to blend the rustic and modern. Placing them on either side of a large mirror helped spread light and made the space feel bigger and more welcoming. The oversized mirror also highlighted the texture of the limewash walls, adding depth and a modern touch.
Finishing Touches: Romantic and Refined
We tied the design together with carefully chosen details, including:
A vintage-inspired antique bronze faucet that unified the dark flooring and marble countertop.
Elegant brass fixtures like sconces, towel rings, and a toilet paper holder for a cohesive metallic touch.
Amber glass accessories and vintage artwork, adding warmth and character.
Romantic velvety white snowball flowers from Afloral for a fresh yet timeless flourish.
From Cramped to Captivating
Before this renovation, the powder room felt uninspired.
We transformed it into a design-forward oasis with function and style by layering rich textures, bold materials, and design elements. From the moody limewash walls to the charming scalloped vanity, every detail reflects the client’s vision and personality.
