At Design & Curations, we’re a little obsessed with arches, and for good reason. They’re timeless, architectural, and grounding, yet instantly soften a space.
You’ve probably noticed them appearing in our projects, from built-ins to entryways, and even dry bars.
We often incorporate three distinct arch styles:
Round Arch
Segmental Arch
Three-Centered Arch
Each has its own personality and purpose, and understanding when (and why) to use them can make all the difference in your home’s design flow.
THE REAL Story Behind My Love for Arches: Mediterranean Heritage My love for arches started long before I ever stepped into the world of interior design. All the way back to my childhood in Antalya, Türkiye, a sun-soaked Mediterranean city where ancient architecture lines the streets and history feels alive. One of the city’s most iconic landmarks is Hadrian’s Gate, a monumental Roman arch that has stood for nearly 2,000 years.
My mom used to tell me that our grandfather, a master marble artisan, helped restore the lion motifs on those arched entry doors. Knowing that a piece of my family’s craftsmanship lives within such a timeless structure makes arches deeply personal to me.

From ancient city gates to European courtyards and boutique hotels, arches have always been part of my visual landscape. Today, they’ve become a signature element in the spaces we design at DnC, symbols of serenity, softness, and calm flow. That’s exactly what I want our interiors to evoke.
The Three Arches We Use Most Often
1. The Round Arch

The most classic of all, smooth, symmetrical, and elegant. It’s the ultimate expression of softness and flow.
We love using it in:
Larger rooms
Main transitions (entryways, hallways)
Fireplaces or architectural focal points
2. The Segmental Arch

When ceilings are shorter or space is limited, we often choose the segmental arch. It has a subtle, shallower curve that keeps things feeling open while adding movement and charm. It’s a great way to introduce curves into smaller spaces without feeling heavy or overdone.
3. The Three-Centered Arch

A personal favorite.
The three-centered arch ombines elegance with restraint. Its form is softer than a rectangle but less dramatic than a full round arch.
It’s ideal for:
Built-ins
Dry bars and home bars
Accent nooks
Architectural cabinetry details
How We Bring Arches Into Our Designs
Arches are incredibly versatile. They can define a space, create symmetry, or add an architectural rhythm.
A few examples from our recent projects:
Griffin Project

We added arched frames over an existing library built-in, instantly transforming it into a sculptural, furniture-like statement wall.
Project Riverside

We paired rectangular forms with arched openings in the dining area to create balance: a clean, formal layout with visual interest
Whether used subtly or as a focal point, arches always add warmth and movement into a home. They bridge the old and the new, the modern design with timeless craftsmanship.
Bringing the Curve Home
Arches have shaped architecture for centuries, yet they feel just as fresh in today’s interiors. They connect us to something ancient and enduring while fitting beautifully into modern organic design.
At DnC, we love carrying that story and that feeling into the spaces we design. It’s our way of adding a touch of heritage, softness, and timeless character to every project.
