5 Design Decisions That Made This Room Work
There’s something we’ve noticed lately.
Dining rooms have quietly become one of the most underused spaces in the house.
Beautiful.
Styled.
Reserved for holidays.
But for House on The Park, our clients wanted something different.
With growing kids and changing routines, they wanted a space that worked harder — somewhere to gather throughout the day rather than only sit down for dinner.
They wanted this room (adjacent to the kitchen and living room) to function for:
Crafts Room.
Morning coffee.
Laptop time.
Homework.
Hosting.
Slow dinners.
Weekend pancakes.
A room that supports real life.
So instead of designing a formal dining room or creating a traditional breakfast nook… We created something in between. An All-Day Dining room. And at the center of it all: A custom banquette.
Why We Chose Custom Banquette Seating
One of our favorite design decisions in this home. Custom banquette seating naturally creates something traditional dining sets often don’t: Comfort, Warmth, Right Dimensions.
A feeling that people should stay longer. Unlike chairs that get pulled in and out, built-in dining seating creates permanence — making the room feel architectural and intentional.
For this project, we wanted the space to feel somewhere between a Paris café, a boutique hotel + a cozy family gathering space.

5 Design Decisions That Made This Room Work
1. Banquette Seating with Storage = Function Hidden Beautifully
Storage was non-negotiable. Inside the custom banquette, we integrated concealed storage that supports entertaining and everyday family life.
Beautiful spaces shouldn’t only photograph well.
They should quietly solve problems.
One of our favorite luxury details is when function becomes invisible.
2. Performance Fabric (That Still Feels Elevated)
This room gets used.
A lot.
Since this needed to become a true family-friendly dining room, we selected materials that could keep up.
For the upholstery, we selected Sunbrella performance fabric.
Back Cushion → ParchmentSeat Cushion → Crush Camel
Durable.
Soft.
Kid-approved.
Still beautiful.
3. Wallpaper Added Instant Character (Without Renovation)
One of the strongest transformations in House on The Park happened without construction.
No electrical rewiring.
No millwork modifications.
Just layers.
Wallpaper became one of those layers.
We selected Phillip Jeffries Vintage Weave Composition White to introduce softness and quiet movement while maintaining the calm palette.
4. Plug-In Lighting Made It Feel Custom
One of our favorite secrets in this project.
Every decorative lighting moment was designed without opening walls.
We used plug-in sconces to create warmth, architecture, and ambiance.
Proof that transformation doesn’t always require renovation.
5. The Oval Table Changed Everything
Sometimes shape changes more than size.
The oval table softened circulation and encouraged conversation.
No sharp corners. No rigid seating moments.
Just better flow. Exactly what this family needed.

Our Favorite Part?
This room gets used.
Every day.
Coffee spills.
Family dinners.
Conversations.
And maybe that’s our favorite definition of luxury.
Not a room that waits for guests.
A room that becomes part of everyday life.
What started as a blank, white entry became a moody, modern foyer filled with texture, personality, and timeless warmth.
This Alpharetta interior design project is a reminder that when collaboration, creativity, and craftsmanship come together, even transitional spaces can become true showstoppers.
