European Cottage Inspired Retreat

For this busy Alpharetta family of four, we transformed a 2,500-square-foot unfinished basement into a warm, welcoming lower-level retreat designed for connection, relaxation, and everyday living.

​

The goal was to create a true extension of the home—one that feels less like a basement and more like a cozy, elevated getaway within the house.

​

This full basement renovation introduced a series of thoughtfully designed spaces, including a kitchen with café-style seating and a built-in bench, a dry bar, a game lounge, a family room with a fireplace, and a living area with custom TV built-ins featuring arched niches.

​

Throughout the design, we focused on flow and cohesion while creating intimate zones for gathering and play. Architectural details such as interior windows, custom millwork, and layered textures define each space while keeping the overall design connected.

Inspired by the charm of a European cottage, the interiors blend warm tones, natural materials, and relaxed elegance. Rich color moments and cozy seating bring personality while maintaining a timeless, lived-in feel.

The result is a refined, family-centered basement renovation—an inviting destination within the home where everyday moments feel intentional and beautifully considered.
