2027 Interior Design Inspiration: 5 Ideas from the World’s Largest Furniture Show
We’ve just returned from High Point Market in North Carolina, the world’s largest home furnishings trade show. It’s where we explore new furniture collections, test sofas and chairs, discover materials, and meet the people behind the pieces we select for your home. This was our sixth visit, and we came back with plenty of inspiration!

Today, I’m sharing five ideas I’m excited to bring into more of our work in 2027 and beyond. Some connect to emerging interior design trends; others are familiar details being interpreted in beautiful new ways.
At Design & Curations, our approach is always calm, cozy, collected. We look for ideas that support that feeling while bringing something personal to each home.
1. Playful Fringe, Tailored Skirts, and Slipcovers
Fringe kept making me stop.
We saw it on little stools, accent chairs, and dining seating. Imagine a rich velvet stool with fringe around the base. It brings movement, texture, and a little drama to a piece that might otherwise feel quite simple.
I love that balance: a playful detail alongside furniture with cleaner lines.

Tailored skirts and slipcovers also caught my attention. The proportions, fabric, and way the skirt falls make such a difference. Linen can feel relaxed and inviting, while a more structured fabric gives the same shape a tailored presence.

These details also change the balance of a room. If every chair and table has exposed legs, a skirted piece can introduce softness and give your eye somewhere to rest.
And we noticed fringe-like effects in lighting, too. One fixture at Arteriors felt like a jewel, with a beautiful tall silhouette that immediately drew me in.
How I’d bring it home: A fringed velvet stool beside a clean-lined sofa, or skirted dining chairs paired with a wood table. Start with one piece and let the detail have its moment.
2. Quiet Drama Through Rich, Romantic Color
Chocolate brown, auburn, Bordeaux, and wine tones - I came home thinking about all of them.
There’s something so inviting about these colors, especially in fabrics with depth. Velvet catches the light differently as you move around it, making a deep brown or burgundy feel especially rich.
I’m drawn to these shades beside navy, taupe, oak, walnut, and touches of black. The combinations can feel romantic and grounded at the same time.

This is what I mean by quiet drama: a room with depth and presence that still feels comfortable.
You might introduce the color through one chair, an ottoman, or artwork. In an office or dining room, you could carry it further through cabinetry or walls.
Seeing these combinations in person is one of the reasons we return to Market. A fabric sample tells part of the story. Seeing it across a sofa, beside wood and stone, helps us understand its possibilities.
How I’d bring it home: Use a Bordeaux accent chair within a softer palette, or build a cozy seating area around chocolate upholstery, warm wood, and textured fabrics.
3. Beautiful Materials for Everyday Living
Some of our most exciting discoveries were practical.
We explored performance fabrics with more interesting patterns, textures, and colorways, including options from Sunbrella and Crypton. There was a brown fabric at Four Hands that I absolutely loved. You can check and search more on those fabrics for your own home!

Jaipur’s CallaLuxe rug collection also caught our attention. For clients with children, pets, and busy households, everyday use is part of the design conversation from the beginning. Performance materials give us more possibilities, but each product has its own qualities and care requirements. We ask questions and review those details before recommending a specific option.
Comfort matters just as much. We sit in the chairs, test the sofas, and compare how different pieces support you. A beautiful photograph can’t tell you whether you’ll enjoy curling up there.
And I have to mention the game tables! We saw beautiful options for mahjong and table tennis that made me imagine family evenings and friends gathering at home.

How I’d bring it home: Choose materials around your actual routines. And if you have an underused room, consider whether a game table could turn it into a place everyone wants to spend time.
4. Sculptural Lighting, Smoked Glass, and Amber Details
My camera roll is full of lighting.
Crystal details, smoked glass, amber tones, and sculptural shapes all caught my eye. I love how these materials interact with light and contribute to the atmosphere of a room.
Amber glass can introduce a warm visual note. Smoked glass brings depth. Crystal can add sparkle and movement, depending on its shape and finish.

I’m also excited about lighting arrangements that create rhythm: two pendants above a dining table, or a grouping of three fixtures at different heights.
The right composition depends on the table, ceiling height, and surrounding architecture. We consider how the fixtures look from across the room and how they feel when you’re sitting underneath them.
Then we layer in other light sources so the room works throughout the day and evening.
How I’d bring it home: Explore paired pendants over a long dining table, or a sculptural fixture where the room needs a focal point. Let the proportions of the space guide the choice.
5. Connected Spaces with Their Own Identity
This final idea is something we’re already exploring in our projects: creating definition between spaces while keeping them connected.
An all-day dining area can feel like its own destination while remaining open to the kitchen. A bar can have a different atmosphere while sitting just off the living room.
Architectural openings help create those relationships.
Think transom archways, interior windows, decorative doorway beams, and built-in niches. Each gives us a way to frame a view or establish a transition without adding a door.
In Farm Luxe, transom archways help define the connections between adjoining spaces.
In our Martha basement project, an interior window creates a view through a dividing wall.
And in Beauty on the Lake, an arch frames a speakeasy-style bar beside the living room. The mural wallpaper gives that little space its own personality.
These are details we consider alongside the furniture because they influence how you move through and experience the home.
How I’d bring it home: Look at the transitions between your rooms. An everyday opening or an overlooked nook may offer an opportunity to introduce character and a more purposeful connection.
Bringing the Inspiration into Your Home
I love modern interiors with a story: old and new together, marble beside wood, tailored shapes softened by fabric, and a few details that make you look closer.
High Point Market gives us time to explore those combinations. While I’m gathering design inspiration, Alper and the team are also building vendor relationships and learning about their programs. Those conversations help us make informed selections and take better care of our clients.
We come home with new ideas, practical knowledge, and plenty to discuss around the studio table.
Our mission is to help you change how you see the world through your home. For us, that starts with understanding your life and finding the right combination of beauty, comfort, and character to support it.
Which of these five ideas would you bring into your home?
